Good afternoon everyone!
A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 9am tomorrow morning, as a fast-moving snow system will move into the Chicago area tonight. Snow will begin between 8 and 11pm, as temperatures continue to drop to below the freezing level. Snow will fall for much of the night, before tapering off to flurries by early tomorrow morning. This snow will not effect the evening rush hour. By tomorrow morning, expect 3-5" of snow in the city with totals topping 6" in far south counties, and totals under 3" in counties north of the city. This storm is poised to break Chicago's all-time record for snowfall in the month of February, which currently stands at 27.8", set back in 1896. February's snowfall currently sits at 27" so we should be able to break the record. Be careful out there, as roads will become slippery tonight and tomorrow morning. Snowfall rates could exceed 1" per hour at times in certain locations. Check back later for more details on this system and the next two systems expected over the weekend!
