Good afternoon!
The details of the this storm are beginning to take shape. Let me start off by saying that NONE of this is being overdone! This is a very SERIOUS storm that will cripple the Chicago land area starting tomorrow night. We first will see some light snow develop during the night hours tonight that will drop about 1-2" on the city, but that is nothing compared to what's to come! This blizzard could top the Blizzard of 1967 when 23 inches fell in the city. The storm will roll in at around this time tomorrow and by about 9pm, the worst of the storm will have begun. The storm will snow at 2-3" per hour and could reach 4" per hour in areas where thundersnow may be present. The worst of the storm should be from 9pm Tuesday til 6am Wednesday. Driving will be nearly impossible during this time and throughout most of the storm as winds in excess of 40mph combined with the heavy snow will cause visibilities to be reduced to almost NOTHING!!!! Storm totals will be in the 18-24" range in Chicago. Chicago could also see some lake effect snow that could boosts snowfall to over the 2 foot mark in some areas. If we record more than 16", then it will be one of the Top 5 snow storms in Chicago history. Again, please be aware that this is not something to be taken lightly. This is a major storm that will bring dangerous weather conditions and nearly impossible travel. Schools and businesses will be CLOSED on Wednesday and power outages will occur. I will have a few new tabs on my blog that will be updated with ALL school/business closings, as well as the Top 5 Snowstorms in Chicago. Please check back to this site for the latest on the storm!
